Hello World Tutorial

Thu Jul 30, 2015 4:59 pm

SeeedStudio has posted a nice getting-started tutorial which walks through building MiCO and flashing the code to the board.
Check it out here: http://www.seeedstudio.com/recipe/337-hello-world-for-emw3165.html

The caveat is that since MiCO hasn't been ported to GCC yet, you need to compile it with IAR Embedded Workbench. The trial version of IAR is available for download here: https://www.iar.com/iar-embedded-workbench/downloads/ - not sure if MiCO will compile with the code-size limits of the demo version or not.

My modules haven't arrived yet, but I'll be sure to give this a try as soon as I get them.

Hi ewmadmin,

I'm Terry, the author of this tutorial, also the leader of Seeed Recipe team.

We would like to use this module to make a contest on Seeed Recipe platform this month and welcome all makers to join. I have talked to the MXCHIP MiCO team, they are happy to use this forum to discuss and give technical support if possible. Check out the Recipe Monthly newsletter I'm going to send out soon. :)

BTW, I'm still working on the second demo of the recipe. The documents are mostly in Chinese. I really want to have an open source tool chain that we don't need to rely on windows environment. I think the MXCHIP team haven't work out the porting yet. I would like to connect them to the community more.

Cheers

Hi Terry,

Thanks for your excellent work on creating some tutorials for these modules. Looking forward to seeing your next one!

I completely agree that an open-source toolchain will be critical in getting a lot of the community work on these modules. MXCHIP has mentioned that they are porting MICO to GCC and it should be ready "in a few weeks", but a short term solution could be using Broadcom's WICED SDK. WICED can already be compiled with GCC, and getting it setup for this module shouldn't be all that difficult. There's a nice project on github which is WICED for EMW3162 module, so using this as a starting point should make getting a version to compile with EMW3165 fairly easy. Unfortunately I just haven't had time to dive in and work on it yet myself.

Gitter: https://gitter.im/EMW3162/WICED_for_EMW3162
Github Repo: https://github.com/EMW3162/WICED_for_EMW3162

This would be the quickest way to get GCC running with these modules, albeit by sacrificing the added MiCO functionality beyond Broadcom's SDK.

Happy to hear that you've found this forum a welcoming place. Please let me know if you have any suggestions on how to make this site better. I'm also happy to grant moderator privledges to anyone from Seeed or MXCHIP that wants to be actively involved in this growing community.

Cheers!

Hi emwadmin,

I would love to join this community and share what we make. I'm only afraid that I'm not qualified to be the moderator of this forum, because my professional skills are mainly on server backend development, I can't even write the tutorial without the help from MXCHIP engineers. So I will ask the MXCHIP guys to be the moderators instead.

It would be great to stay in this forum and learn from you guys. I will try the WICED SDK and see if I could post more tutorials.

BTW, we're having a contest for this board in August. Welcome to apply the module for free, and share the projects on Seeed Recipe platform.

I just got my modules today, so I'll start porting the WICED_for_EMW3162 stuff for EMW3165.
I'll hopefully have a working platform definition today.
Maintainer of the EMW3162 and EMW3165 port of Broadcom WICED.
