As I mentioned in a previous post, I received my Particle Photon module this weekend and so I've been tinkering with it. I'm quite impressed at how refined their platform is for really making it easy to get up and running. As I was digging around in their documentation, turns out they are very happy to support running their firmware on other hardware platforms and then one can take advantage of their incredible infrastructure. Their module is an STMicro M3 + the same Broadcom WiFi radio, so it should only require relatively straight-forward modifications.
Here's their open-source firmware project:
It'd be great if anyone more familiar with firmware development on STMicro ARM MCUs could see how much effort it would take to port this to the EMW3165. I believe this could be quite awesome and not so hard. I'd love to get others opinions on this and see what could be done.
